Why Modeling is Essential to Software Engineering
The term Model Driven Engineering (MDE) is typically used to describe software development approaches in which models of software systems are created, analyzed and used to create dependable implementations. In this talk I will discuss some of the major challenges that must be tackled in order to realize the MDE vision of software development. I argue that MDE research addresses core software engineering concerns. Research aimed at realizing the MDE vision of software development can provide insights that, if properly exploited, can lead to significant advances in software engineering technologies.
