Professor Henri Angelino, Director Globla Liaison Office National Institute of Informatics (NII), Tokyo, Japan: "National Institute of Informatics: Main research activities and International Cooperation policy"
The National Institute of Informatics (NII) in Tokyo is the only national academic research institute for Informatics in Japan. Its activities deal with:
- *"Fundamental" research* performed in one of the 4 research divisions:
Principles of Informatics Research Division
Information Systems Architecture Science Research Division
Digital Content and Media Sciences Research Division
Information and Society Research Division
- *"Strategic" research* in one of the "research centers"
- *"Construction/Operation" *of Cyber Science infrastructure academic network and contents
- *Education for graduate students* in the frame of the Department of Informatics of SOKENDAI University
After a general presentation of the research activities in the four Divisions, NII policy for International cooperation will be presented. Some aspects will be discussed that are implemented with partner institutions in the frame of a MOU:
- "NII International Internship" to receive Ms or PhD students for a short period 2-6 months supported by GLO-NII.
- Visiting professor positions for up to 3 months with financial support.
- Possibility to be special lecturer in the frame of "NII International Advanced lectures series on ICT".
Last but not least an introduction to the *special DAAD-NII program* for German post-doc. will be given
